Snoopy Comes to Paris! Part Deux: Costello Tagliapietra

by Paige Reddinger

You may have heard that a traveling exhibition is celebrating 30 years of Snoopy in fashion. Snoopy and his sister Belle have have already made appearances in New York, Stockholm, Amsterdam, and Berlin, and now they’ve landed in city of love. Next stop? Milan, from October 23 – 25. Each Snoopy & Belle was decked out by different designers, like DSquared2, Dries Van Noten, and Isabel Marant, to name a few. Costello Tagliapietra also had their hand, and we caught up with the duo to hear about their designs for the beloved cartoon character.

How did Costello Tagliapietra become involved in this project?
We became involved through the CFDA.

What was the idea behind your design for Snoopy & Belle?
Our design for Belle came out of our Fall 2015 collection. We combed out a nubby tweed to create a furry-like texture for a cozy cardigan and scaled one of the dresses. For Snoopy, we wanted him to represent us, so we duplicated one of our own plaid shirt-suspendered uniforms!

What is your earliest memory of Snoopy?
Snoopy is so engrained in our childhoods. When we think of Snoopy it is not just the Sunday comics and the toys that we loved but also this connection to family, friends, and holidays. Snoopy and Peanuts are so much a part of our holiday memories every year, to this day, anxiously awaiting It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and A Charlie Brown Christmas to come on television.

Is Snoopy big in Europe?
Having matching tattoos on our arms (in honor of our own dog) of the lyrics of a Peanuts song, we have seen firsthand just how universal Snoopy is!

Do you have a favorite Peanuts character other than Snoopy?
We both really connect with Charlie Brown, the consummate underdog who always realizes what is truly important to him—great friends and of course, having the best dog on the planet!
