Self Nabs Cosmopolitan's Joyce Chang As Editor-In-Chief

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) Self has a new editrix on board to helm the fitness title: Joyce Chang is leaving her post as executive editor at Cosmopolitan to become editor-in-chief of the health-centric Condé Nast glossy. She succeeds Lucy Danziger, “who will leave Condé Nast after many successful years of service,” according to a release from the publishing house. Self is also bidding adieu to its VP and publisher, Laura McEwen; the mag has not yet named her successor.

As for Danziger’s post-Self move after 13 years at the mag: yet to be divulged, but likely in the editorial realm. “I’m looking forward to my next adventures in the well-being, lifestyle content space on all platforms, with some new projects to be announced soon,” Danziger told the The Daily via a spokesperson. “I said to my team, change is good. I wish Self and the new leadership all the best.”

“I am so pleased to welcome Joyce back to Condé Nast,” said Anna Wintour in a statement. “Her diverse resume of experiences has taught her the power of a strong and intelligent woman. I’m excited to see the new direction she will bring to Self.” Chang’s former Condé stints were at Allure and Lucky. Chang joined Cosmopolitan in September 2012 after one year as exec editor at Marie Claire, shortly after Joanna Coles jumped over from MC to Cosmo. Hearst nabbed Chang in October 2011 from her deputy editor post at People StyleWatch. She has also held roles at People and The New York Times Magazine.

Chang’s first day at Self will be May 1.

Chang’s first day at Self will be May 1. “Busy women need curated ideas, information and inspiration to lead rich, balanced lives. I look forward to taking the helm at Self and expanding its mission of championing women to be their personal best,” said Chang in a Condé statement. Stay tuned for news of Coles’ fresh number two at Cosmopolitan.
