Resort 2015: Misha Nonoo

by Daniel Chivu

Misha Nonoo is married to Alexander Gilkes, the co-founder behind digital art venture Paddle 8, so it’s no surprise the designer was influenced by artists for the resort season. Robert Motherwell‘s “Behind The Sea” series served as the reference point for wavy skirts in soft sea foam greens and crisp whites. “I was looking at Motherwell’s curved lines and they inspired these wavelike details you can see in the hemlines,” said Nonoo. “The wave effect was created by inserting small bands of horsehair into the hemline.”

Meanwhile, Wade Guyton‘s shifted lines inspired the details on preppy, collegiate sweaters with sheer details. Mixed in were baby blue summer dresses with a touch of floral on the breast or silk sea foam shift dress with ruffle detailing on the back of the skirt for the perfect summer party attire. Silk sea foam culottes and navy jumpsuits were simultaneously cute and summery as well as sophisticated. “The starting point for the collection was my woman. The Nonoo woman is an accomplished woman, she really thinks about how she presents herself to the world,” said Nonoo “That can mean a working professional, a mother, or even a philanthropist, but it’s really someone who is getting dressed every morning. You don’t want to think too hard about getting dressed in the morning, but you still want to look composed and put together.” Ultimately, it was a serene collection that had just that sort of ease and versatility to it that a Nonoo woman with a busy schedule will need.
