Resort 2014: Louis Vuitton

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) Louis Vuitton
The inspiration behind Louis Vuitton’s resort collection was clearly the Parisian woman. None too surprising for the French maison! There were plenty of chic, understated pieces that took a sophisticated read on a bohemian aesthetic. Denim was a big theme in this collection and while we Americans have claimed that category to be distinctly ours, it was actually the French who created the classic fabric. More jeans-centric trivia? The word denim actually comes from “de Nîmes” the French region where the fabric was first made.

Thus, Vuitton rolled out pieces like a sexy yet simple denim, double-breasted wide leg pantsuit, a chambray drop-waist dress worn with a white blazer tossed over the shoulders, and a Holly Hobbie style A-line denim skirt with fringe detail that fell just above the ankles and was worn with a chambray button down and topped off with a khaki newsboy cap. Of course, there were plenty of pretty feminine frocks, like a ’30s style canary yellow dress with ruffled bell sleeves and a twirly ruffled hemline, or a girly B&W floral print cap sleeve dress that would look just as good uptown as it would downtown.

As for the accessories? They were a bit more Dutch than French. If you’ve been thinking of throwing away those high-heeled clogs that had quite the moment not so long ago, think again. Clogs, both traditional and high-heeled, were paired with almost half the looks in this collection. The remainder of the collection got paired with Chelsea boots and smoking slippers. On the clog front, We’ll be taking ours out of the consignment pile this evening…
