Resort 2014: Carolina Herrera

(NEW YORK) Carolina Herrera
By the time resort hits the racks, it will most certainly be time to retire your skinny cigarette pants. This resort season is chock full of wide, sweeping palazzo pants, and chez Carolina Herrera followed suit. Let us count the ways! White flowy pants paired with a crossneck, white floral-festooned navy top; a navy floral print palazzo pant jumpsuit and wide-leg floral patterned pants paired with a striped t-shirt and a navy drawstring windbreaker style jacket. The pants were a big focus and will come in many more colorways than shown at the presentation.

However, Herrera said that the inspiration for the collection came from prints. “It started with one flower and went on from there,” she said. How so? A recent trip to Singapore inspired a love for the country’s signature flower, the orchid. Thus, lots of love for the orchid was seen throughout the collection, worked into pieces like an elegant cherry red, aqua, navy, and bubblegum pink sleeveless striped gown as a faded print that peeped its way through the horizontal lines. A black, white, and cobalt blue garden party dress had the flower integrated into its column skirt, tracing down the length of the dress. On a silk striped pencil dress, those orchids were done in a stencil-y effect, drawn in black. Meanwhile, other standout patterns like a multi-colored patchily spotted halter dress and a stripe-y geometric ’70s style cowl neck halter dress popped on Herrera’s haute terrace terrain where the collection was shown. This collection succeeded in doing what Herrera does best, which is pure feminine elegance, while adding a bit of pop to make her sophisticated ladies stand out in the crowd.
