Quintessentially Lifestyle's Private Screening of Gatsby At The MoMA

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) It’s Gatsby galore this week! The film had another screening last night at the MoMA ahead of its May 10th debut in theaters. This screening was hosted by Quintessentially Lifestyle, the luxury lifestyle concierge and all the stars were on hand to fête the flick. Plenty of big fashion names arrived to view the film including: Vera Wang, Parbal Gurung, Michael Kors, Julia Stegner, Nicole Trunfio, Anja Rubik, Nanette Lepore, Brad Goreski, Olivier Theyskens, Yigal Azrouel, and to our pleasant surprise, Valentino. No doubt this crew would be paying special attention to the costumes designed by Miuccia Prada for costume designer and art director, Catherine Martin. “I’m very excited to be here tonight, because the film is going to be very inspiring for fashion,” said Valentino. The designer also added, “Tomorrow night will be another evening at The Metropolitan that will be full of ideas, because maybe they are going to do their best and make it sensational.” Only time will tell.

Meanwhile, Carey Mulligan arrived fresh-faced, despite her jam packed press schedule, to a rather excited group of photographers screaming her name outside of the venue as she posed for photographs. As she worked the red carpet in a black and white Prada pantsuit, Mulligan said of working on director Baz Luhrmann‘s set, “I’ve never experienced anything like it. It’s actually incredibly helpful in terms of getting into character,” said Mulligan. “You get drawn in and half of it is done by you walking onto a set with such epic scale and so intricately designed and he is the most energetic, warm, and wonderful person.” Luhrmann explained his casting technique: “There are no extras in our film; everybody who comes to work on our film is a character. Everyone is a person and when you treat people like that they give extra.” How so? “They’re actually really in the moment in those party scenes,” said Luhrmann. “They’re not pretending they’re in the party scenes.”

And if the film was any indication, those on-set parties were epic. Sign us up to be your extras, Mr. Luhrmann! Speaking of parties, guests at the screening headed over to the Top of the Standard for the after-party where the waitresses in their Rubin Chapelle-designed uniforms almost looked like they would have fit right into one of the film’s fêtes. Leonardo DiCaprio, who skipped the screening, arrived fashionably late and chatted with Luhrmann, Mulligan, Oliver Stone, and a stunning Gwen Stefani. Other VIPs at the star-studded party were the likes of Katy Perry (who palled around with Mia Moretti), Eve, Russell Simmons, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Zosia Mamet. We think Gatsby, and maybe even Mr. Fitzgerald himself, would have approved.
