Piperlime To Shutter Its Site And Brick-And-Mortar Store In April

by Dena Silver

Come April, Piperlime will bid adieu: The retailer, operated by Gap Inc., will be shuttering their e-commerce destination as well as their brick and mortar boutique this spring. This is yet another change that incoming Gap CEO Art Peck has put into effect for the corporation before he steps into his new gig on February 1. This announcement also follows the site’s relaunch this past September, which included a new look for the site, a redesigned logo, as well as the introduction of Piperlime Collection, an in-house label. Additionally, they tapped influencers such as Olivia Palermo, Chrissy Teigen, Poppy Delevingne, and Clare Vivier to contribute style tips and advice alongside merch.

Piperlime was started in 2006 as an online destination for shoes, aiming to rival e-tailers like Zappos. The site branched out to carry contemporary ready-to-wear labels and accessories, including brands like Rebecca Taylor, Tibi, Misha Nonoo, and Rebecca Minkoff. They introduced a Soho shop in 2012 at 121 Wooster Street. However, Piperlime has remained one of the smallest businesses in the Gap portfolio, comprising only 1 percent of overall revenue, according to Fast Company. “We plan to keep on pushing new ideas and look forward to seeing how we can apply what we’ve learned to the rest of the company,” Peck said in a statement.
