Pharrell Williams Pairs Up With Adidas

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) Pharrell Williams sartorial style is almost as famous as his music, so it comes as no surprise that the musician announced his latest fashion collab with Adidas today. Williams already has four other designer collabs under his belt, including G-Star, Comme des Garçons, Moncler, and Uniqlo. His style been of particular note lately. To wit: Williams’ Vivienne Westwood hat garnered tons of attention at the Grammys, where he also happened to be wearing a custom red leather classic Adidas Firebird jacket.

This marks the fourth designer collab for Adidas, who already does projects with Raf Simons, Rick Owens, and Yohji Yamamoto. It is the first time, however, that the brand is collaborating with a designer in possession of a textile factory. Williams owns a factory that produces Bionic Yarn, which is fabric made using discarded plastic debris from the ocean. Bionic Yarn is manufactured as part of an initiative with Parley for the Oceans, an organization that brings together artists, thinkers, and leaders to raise awareness for environmental concerns regarding the oceans. Some of the pieces for the Adidas Originals x Pharrell collab will be made with Bionic Yarn. Williams’ G-Star collab also uses the fabric. “Working with an iconic brand like Adidas is such an incredible opportunity,” said Williams in a press statement. “From the classic track suit, to growing up in Virginia wearing Stan Smiths, Adidas has been a staple in my life. Their pieces are timeless. This is an exciting partnership for both me and for Bionic Yarn.” The collaboration is slated to be ongoing; expect the first products to hit shelves this summer.
