Paris Fall 2013: Chanel

by The Daily Front Row

(PARIS) Chanel
As heads of state gather for the United Nation’s Commission on the Status of Women stateside, Karl Lagerfeld was holding his own convention of sorts in Paris where the Grand Palais was transformed into the Chanel headquarters, complete with a giant rotating globe, front and center. Jessica Chastain, Vanessa Paradis, and Milla Jovovich were just a few of the bold-faced “representatives” that gathered for the early morning event. On the agenda? Elongated overcoats with center cutouts at the hem, exaggerated nubby jackets worn over pleated minis, fit ‘n’ flare LBDs accented with slick over-the-knee leather boots, and scads of oversize knits of the bejeweled, braided, or crocheted variety. An updated take on the classic Chanel skirtsuit was especially appealing, this time crafted with an A-line skirt slit up the center and twinned with your choice of topper—a tweed or leather jacket with an enlarged collar, amplified sleeves, or both, if you please. And in case you thought you were seeing things, there really was a petit transparent globe purse dangling from a string of pearls on one mod, which could only signal one thing: Lagerfeld really does have the whole world in his hands. Meeting adjourned.
