Paris Couture Fall 2013: Giambattista Valli

What’s a stylish ice queen with a penchant for floral prints supposed to wear for the Fall 2013 season? Giambattista Valli’s latest collection, bien sûr! In a wash of (mostly) crisp whites, this catwalk was a clean sweep that left little room for color. Keep those delicate necks warm in chilly winter climes with a flora-covered blanc turtleneck, while a sheer lace skirt keeps things cooler below. Inspiration can also be found within those kitchen cabinets, because a handful of frocks were decorated in the style of fine china, whether it was an indigo floral on a bell sleeved tee-shirt dress or a severe gown with red buds. A sugary sweet lilac pouf and sheer white draped top gets toughened up with strappy black sandals, and would be a sure hit at all of winter’s fêtes. Meanwhile, a full mini skirt covered in purple vines is a more serious choice when partnered with a proper tweedy jacket. For those moments where making a scene and employing a shock of color are necessary, the Valli girl is covered. First up, a romantic red vest covered in rouge blossoms finished off with a sheer red skirt, consider the chartreuse crop top paired with a floor-length lavender skirt. Finally, that jarring yellow gown with a spectacularly oversized bow? Talk of the town fodder, easily.
