NYFW Fall 2014: Tommy Hilfiger, Donna Karan, Vera Wang, Milly

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) Tommy Hilfiger
What to wear to the ski chalet this winter? Tommy’s grunge-inspired mountain wear, of course! Layers and layers of colorful plaids, quilted puffers, shearling-lined coats with oversize pockets, and knit ponchos will be de rigueur for next winter’s polar vortex. A new take on Hilfiger’s cadre of all-American tropes, this is one we’re ready to cozy up to.

Donna Karan
Happy 30th, Donna! For the American design icon’s anniversary this year, she paid tribute to New York City with the ultimate urban glam girl’s wardrobe. That meant dramatic chiffon gowns, statement-making fur coats, and plenty of black, like a saucy blazer paired with thigh-high boots that came sans pants.

Vera Wang
Wang’s wicked girl is too cool for school. Dressed in sheer floor-length plaid shirtdress over matching leggings with a boyfriend blazer thrown over, this girl wouldn’t be caught dead above 14th Street.  She can throw on preppy elements like an argyle sweater, a plaid kilt-inspired skirt, and then top it off with opera-length leather gloves and make it look slightly, and oh so desirably goth.

Milly
Michelle Smith was inspired by ballerinas this season, but the look wasn’t literal. Instead there were touches of tulle skirts, flouncy silk skirts, and casual layering that are all standard ballerina fare. Here they were paired with blazers or Mongolian fur vests. A pewter metallic coat shined and the casual cool of this collection danced down the catwalk.
