Nicole Richie on Her New Fashion & Acting Gigs

by Sydney Sadick

If you’ve been following the top fashion bloggers or celebs like Kim Kardashian and Chrissy Teigen on Instagram, chances are you’ve seen where everyone’s been hanging out this summer: Revolve‘s house in the Hamptons. This weekend, the retailer closed out its month-long #REVOLVEintheHamptons celebration with a grand finale hosted by Nicole Richie, who just launched an exclusive House of Harlow 1960 collection with the company. We chatted with the designer-turned-actress (she’s starring in a new NBC comedy called “Great News”) on the collab and taking on her first acting gig.

What triggered this collaboration with Revolve?
I’ve had a relationship with Revolve before I did this collaboration because they carried my jewelry. I really liked what they were doing, so I wanted to have a general meeting with them. Their energy is very exciting, they’re innovative thinkers, they love to experiment, and I just knew that I wanted to collaborate with them, so we decided to do that with apparel. It’s been the best experience ever.

What’s the inspiration behind the collection?
I’m hugely inspired by the ’60s and the ’70s, and I combined that with Los Angeles because I’m from L.A. and Revolve is based in L.A. I wanted to celebrate this amazing city that we both love.

And now you’re in the Hamptons! Have you visited before?
Yes! I’ve been here many times. I don’t spend summers out here, though. I’m a West Coast girl!

Do you have a favorite piece in the collection?
The bodysuits are my favorite. I’m really living in all of them. And the jumper I’m wearing is one of my favorites. There’s also this blue and orange print pajama set that I’m loving right now.

In other news, you’re headed to scripted TV…How’d this happen?
I read for this show because I really connected to the role. I’m a huge fan of Tina Fey, so it’s beyond a dream come true. I found out when I was on my way here, so it still doesn’t feel real yet, but I’m really excited to go home and celebrate with my family.

Is there anything you haven’t explored yet that you could see yourself doing?
I’m somebody who lives more in the moment. It’s just where all of my energy has to go, and it’s healthier for my overall wellbeing. I’m really excited for everything what’s happening right now.

Have you done any other traveling this summer?
I’ve been here, I’ve been to New York for about a week, and I went to Italy earlier this summer. It’s been a summer full of travel, which has been great.

And then comes fall…
I’ll be working and just doing my thing!
