Mulberry Skips Out On A Fall 2014 Runway Show

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) Mulberry won’t be trotting its Fall 2014 wares on the runway at London Fashion Week come February. The British brand has yet to name a successor for former creative director Emma Hill, who took her last bow on the catwalk for the brand in September. But don’t expect LFW to be completely devoid of Mulberry: the brand is “definitely be participating in London Fashion Week and details of this will be released in the near future,” according to a company statement, per WWD.

Hill’s departure was announced in June, following the designer’s six successful years at the label. Hill is an alum of Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Gap, Burberry, and Chloé; she replaced Stuart Vevers at Mulberry upon arriving at the brand.  Her Mulberry stint ratcheted up the line’s handbag offerings, including the Alexa and Del Rey styles named after Alexa Chung and Lana Del Rey, respectively. She also brought more brights into the Mulberry mix—and ushered dogs on the runway. In November 2012, Hill nabbed a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) award from Queen Elizabeth. She reportedly bid adieu to Mulberry due to “disagreements with management over creative and operational strategy,” according to WWD. Immediately after Hill’s impending departure from Mulberry was announced, rumors swirled that her next stop would be Coach, following Reed Krakoff’s farewell. Hill’s next move apres-Mulberry remains a mystery.

While Mulberry won’t be staging a runway show this season, who will take the creative helm for Spring 2015 and beyond? Talents like Erdem Moralioglu, Roland Mouret, and Mary Katrantzou have been mentioned as possible successors for Hill. Stay tuned…
