A Moment With…Parisian Stylist Catherine Baba

by Paige Reddinger

Do you know Catherine Baba? The Parisian-based stylist has the most unique look of the front row set. We chatted her up at Nina Ricci about her muses, what look she’s coveting this season, and her favorite chic haunts in Paris.

You have such a unique style! Who are your style icons?
Loulou de la Falaise. There is a book coming out soon on Loulou. Who else do I live for? Diana Vreeland was the epitome of personal style and she celebrated that. Also, Cleopatra Jones.

What is the one piece in your wardrobe that you will always hold on to?
All of my kimonos. If it’s not a kimono, it’s a peignoir, you know. When I feel like wearing clothes but not wearing clothes, a kimono is what I put on.

There were a lot of kimonos on the runway this season. What was your favorite?
I saw Roland Mouret this morning and he had a bright tangerine red, vermillion, divine kimono.

Who do people tell you you look like?
Who do you think I look like?

A silver screen siren!
Thank you, darling! I love silent silver screen cinematiques. I also love technicolor. I love embracing all worlds!

Is there anyone you haven’t styled yet that you would love to do a shoot with?
So far, many of them I have done. Melissa George, right next to me.

Who’s your favorite person you’ve styled?
Marisa Berenson. She was heaven! One of the most divine people I have ever met.

We bet she has amazing stories!
Multiples. That’s why she’s one of the most divine people I’ve ever worked with.

Tell us one of your Parisian secrets.
Well if I told you, darling, it wouldn’t be a secret anymore. But the spot I’m at literally every day now is a restaurant called La Belle Epoque in the 2ème. She’s our new dining room. I also have multiple secret spots in the flea market Marché aux puces de Clignancourt.
