In an interview with Matt Lauer on The Today Show this morning, Mick Jagger opened up for the first time since girlfriend L’Wren Scott died by suicide in March. Jagger is on the promotional tour for the film Get On Up about James Brown, which he produced. Lauer opened the interview saying, “Let me start out on a serious note, I haven’t seen you in about a year and it’s been a difficult year for you with the death of L’Wren. How are you doing?” “I’m doing okay,” Jagger told Lauer. “It’s difficult. Very hard year, but I got back into it by working on touring with the Stones in Europe and doing other things, including doing this great movie. I’ve had a lot of support. A lot of support.” Lauer quickly changed focus to discuss Get On Up, which opens August 1st. Shortly after L’Wren’s death, Jagger released a statement on Facebook which said, “‘I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way.” He’ll resume touring with The Rolling Stones in October.
