Menswear Spring 2014: Prada

Leave it up to Miuccia Prada to remind the world, once again, that she doesn’t only break the rules, but she also has the power to redefine them. Case in point: her Spring/Summer 2014 Men’s runway collection included a roster of steamy hot male models interrupted by a handful of female seductresses. Having some women in the mix was anything but accidental, given the theme of old fashioned romance throughout collection.

Hawaiian print shirts were paired with oversized pinstriped trousers, evoking the feeling of young boys who were departing for war and leaving behind the loves of their lives. The Hawaiian shirts in question are far different from the ones your father embarrassingly wore on family vacations, though. Prada’s iterations featured an abstract print and were spruced up as a layering piece, rather than the focal point of an outfit. Satiny jewel toned bomber jackets were paired with oversized trousers for the boys and were thrown over a skirt for the ladies. Also used as layering pieces? Classic short-sleeved polos, as well as Miuccia’s take on the iconic Member’s Only jacket. As for the female constituency of this catwalk, it was all about femmes fatales, in clingy and blingy dresses, many of which were splashed with loud hits of that Hawaiian print.

Lest we forget: let’s talk accessories! First, you will absolutely need vintage inspired luggage in a bright print for the summer. Don’t be scared to pair sneakers with scrunched socks. Lastly, it’s time to fully embrace tinted sunnies fresh from the ’70s.
