Maxime Simoëns Splits From LVMH, Takes A Design Sabbatical

LVMH is parting ways with one of its young talents: Designer Maxime Simoëns has announced his plans take a sabbatical from his namesake brand. Both parties purportedly decamped from the partnership amicably. LVMH became a financial backer in the 30-year-old’s label in February 2013, four years after he started his eponymous line. The designer has also received mentoring from Christian Dior’s CEO, Sidney Toledano. Simoëns graduated from Chambre Syndicale in 2006; post-graduation, he did a string of impressive apprenticeships at the likes of Dior, Balenciaga, and Jean-Paul Gaultier.

In anticipation of putting design and production on hold, the Parisian designer has already downsized his staff. But Simoëns remains positive in the wake of this move. “I’m extremely serene regarding my future, for my brand and other projects. I’m very confident in my company’s future,” he told WWDHe has become synonymous with bright, colorful collections over the past few seasons. To wit: The first look in his Spring 2015 show included a crop top that read “#ColorfulIsTheNewBlack”. Hopefully he’ll bring his punchy touch back to the fashion landscape soon.
