Marni Spring 2015

by Dena Silver

In honor of their 20th year in the biz, Marni opted to celebrate with a whole lot of flowers for Spring. So many blossoms, in fact, the maison actually opened a one-day-only market dedicated solely for blooms, allowing fashionettes to peruse the buds alongside the locals. Did this floral adoration find its way into the collection, too? But of course! Prints of many types reigned supreme over the beautiful selection of minimalist skirts and modernized sweatshirts with judo belts. Take, for example, an orange fur coat, covered in light blue and white blooms, or a delightful shirt and pant combo splashed with hints of emerald green and lemon yellow. All those buzzy prints were sandwiched between quiet white looks, the last few of which were the most outstanding, including a split-personality skirt featuring white applique flowers on a black background alongside black applique flowers on a white background. That juxtaposed patchwork continued on in a few other skirts and dresses, gussied up with a few ruffles and kept in line with strong black seams. And lest you thought that comfy, sensible footwear was on the outs, Marni proved just the opposite. They offered up a selection of flat sandals, including a slingback version with a squared shape as well as colorful, strappy Teva-esque kicks with a slight platform.
