Marc Jacobs Celebrates Spring Eyewear with a Dance Party

by Sydney Sadick

It might have been a Tuesday night, but that didn’t stop the 500 attendees who RSVP’ed for Marc Jacobs’ dance party from showing up and partying hard at the Old School Gym in Soho. The shindig, which celebrated the designer’s Spring 2016 eyewear collection, was inspired by the Ziegfeld Theater, where Jacobs presented his Spring/Summer 2016 runway collection. Naturally, the digs were transformed to resemble the theater (think: red, red, and more red) and screamed anything but boring, thanks to the #MJScreamTeam who flirtatiously greeted guests at the door on wooden stools and were dressed in red burlesque-looking lingerie.

Just a few steps further, amid red disco strobe lights and sweeping drapes, the MJ sunglasses were displayed on a wall of hands, a few of which were actually real (thanks to hidden models) and donned bedazzled manis. Guests could pick their very own pair of sunnies to try on and pose in the interactive photo booth, including model Flavianna Matata, who then opted for a regular iPhone pic after not loving the printed picture quality. Adding to the ambiance were various performers posing and dancing throughout the space, and shirtless male mods pouring Belvedere cocktails at the bar and passing out mini champagne bottles from carts. Slices of pizza packaged in Marc Jacobs-branded boxes were served on silver trays by more shirtless mods, as well as popsicles for a “healthy” sweet ending.

While Jacobs didn’t show up for the party (where was he?!), Milk—the drag performer who modeled in the designer’s spring campaign—took on hosting duties. Familiar faces filled the room, like Kate Mara, who hit the dance floor with Jamie Bell, plus Jennifer Morrison, Hari Nef, Chloe Wise, Mickey Boardman, Mia Moretti, Sky Ferreira, The MisshapesMamie Gummer, and Kanye West’s protégé Kacy Hill, who took the stage for a three-song lineup.
