Macy’s Dumps Donald Trump

The bad news keeps on coming for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who was fired by Macy’s today. The department store will be pulling Donald Trump brand merchandise from stores (don’t cry all at once) after his controversial comments about Mexican immigrants sparked a MoveOn.org petition to get Macy’s to cut ties with him. With over 700,000 signatures, it appears to have worked.

“We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico. We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation,” Macy’s said in a statement today. “In light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with Macy’s values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship with Mr. Trump and will phase-out the Trump menswear collection, which has been sold at Macy’s since 2004.”

Earlier this week, NBCUniversal cut ties with Trump, subsequently taking the Miss USA pageant and Miss Universe pageant off their schedule and firing him as the host of Celebrity Apprentice. As usual, he’s chimed in with a reaction to the news: “Both Macy’s and NBC totally caved at the first sight of potential difficulty with special interest groups who are nothing more than professional agitators, who are not looking out for the people they purport to represent, but only for themselves. It is people like this that are actually running our country because our leaders are weak and ineffective.” On a brighter note for The Donald, he joins Jeb Bush in leading the pack among Republican candidates in the polls.
