Live From Paris! Lucky's Eva Chen On Shopping, Starbucks, And Smartphones

by The Daily Front Row

Eva Chen was perched front row at Sonia Rykiel despite just having gotten off a flight from New York mere hours before. Now that’s stamina! We found out what her energizing recipe of choice is and where she likes to swipe up last minute purchases abroad like her amazing Dries Van Noten coat. It only makes sense that Lucky‘s EIC would know the best secret shopping spots, non? For now, she’s keeping those secret spots secret…

We love your coat!
It’s Dries Van Noten. It’s my first-ever Dries piece.

Where did you get it?
I actually got it in Milan just before Paris. There’s this secret outlet that I try not to tell to many people about and I spotted it there. It was a really good purchase! Sadly, I missed his show, though. I actually just got in three or four hours ago.

Wow, you’re a trooper! You went back to New York after Milan?
We’re closing our November issue right now so I had to go back. I flew back from Milan to New York and was there for about 48 hours and then came straight back here.

Impressive. How do you have the stamina?
Well, as you can see, I’m clutching a very tall Starbucks soy mocha cappuccino right now—which was very hard to translate into French at the local Starbucks.

OK, back to your secret outlet…are the deals better than Corso Como in Milan?
Yes! Alexis Bryan Morgan and I actually carved out about 20 minutes to go by there and I didn’t find anything to buy, which is the worst. When you really want to buy something and then you don’t, there’s just this itch for the rest of the day. I’ve never been addicted to anything except shopping so I imagine that’s what a craving feels like.

So you cured the craving?
That night Alexis and I had 10 minutes to spare and I told her I just needed to go back. That’s how I found this amazing Dries coat and then ran back out!

We see you have a Samsung phone! No iPhone?!
Yes! I had an iPhone for so many years. The Samsung takes great pictures. It’s funny someone tweeted a couple of days ago that the screen is so big that typing out a text on this phone is like putting it on a Jumbotron, because you can read everything that people are typing. I love Samsung, though. I just watched the Jimmy Fallon and Joseph Gordon Levitt epic lip sync video on it. Did you see it?

We heard about it, but we haven’t watched it yet!
It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. I was watching it in the airport on my phone and it was like watching it on my own personal little TV screen.
