(NEW YORK) Estee Lauder’s chairman emeritus, Leonard A. Lauder, has offered up a sizable donation to The Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in the form of his impressive Cubism collection, estimated to be worth over $1 billion. The avid art collector will gift the museum 78 works of Cubist art, including 33 works by Picasso, 17 by Georges Braque, 14 by Juan Gris and 14 by Fernand Léger. In return, the Met is establishing The Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art that will be funded by a $22 million endowment from museum trustees and devotees, including Lauder. The facility is meant to encourage and cultivate scholarship and awareness of modern art and Cubism through various projects, programs, and publications. The Lauder Collection will be on display at the Met for Fall 2014.
