Just Doo It: Vince Names Doo-Ri Chung Creative Director

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) New year, new gigs: Designer Doo-Ri Chung is taking the reigns as the new creative director at Vince, announced just one day after word spread that founders Rea Laccone and Christopher LaPolice are exiting the company they founded. Chung will have her hands full, as the company is apparently moving full steam ahead with plans to double their store count and open new digs in the U.K., Canada, and Asia.

The Korean-American designer got her start designing for Geoffrey Beene (like another famed designer we know) and began her eponymous label Doo.Ri amidst the cellophane in the basement of her parents’ dry cleaning biz, where there was presumably no lack of hangers for her designs. Known as the dame of draping, her easy-to-wear and figure flattering jersey looks landed her on the fashion map. However, in June, Chung left her namesake label with little explanation, like a few other fellow fashion folks we know (see: Simon Spurr to Emily Current and Merritt Elliott of Current Elliott, for starters).

Chung’s post-namesake-label move looks like a big and no doubt very lucrative position. Wondering what Chung might do with the luxe sportswear brand? Draped cashmere, s’il vous plait!
