How Did 150 Models Kick Off Summer On Friday?

by Eddie Roche

The Modellounge celebrated the start of summer on Friday afternoon with their annual #ModelSummerHangout on the rooftop garden of the Gansevoort Meatpacking NYC. The event brought out 150 of the top female mods in the biz for access to the rooftop pool, brunch, massages, hair braiding and chalk, and games like limbo, hula hoops, and even some afternoon dancing. Now in its third year, #ModelSummerHangout (which is a girls-only event) has seen the likes of Sara Sampaio, Emily DiDonato, Jacquelyn Jablonski, Chanel Iman, and even Joan Smalls over the years. How’d she end up coming?  “I think she has a true affinity for this space,” Modellounge founder Bernard Smith laughs. (Full disclosure: It’s no secret that Smalls and Smith are a longtime couple.) “It’s a summer hangout and opportunity for the girls to unwind as the work week winds down,” he says. “It’s an escape from every day model life.” The Modellounge has been a safe haven for models to hang out in between castings to check e-mail, read, nap, and meet other models from New York’s top 10 agencies.
