Haute Couture Spring 2014: Alexandre Vauthier

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) Alexandre Vauthier
For the spring Couture circuit, Alexander Vauthier is somewhat beach-bound, giving surf gear a sleek revamp, sans a pair of sunglasses or a neon bikini in sight. Instead, the predominately B&W selection had more of a nightclub vibe, especially when infused with gold details and leather intricacies. Take look trois, which paired a sharp white blazer with an equally white bikini alongside stacks of gold accessories, which is easier to imagine on Rihanna on a red carpet than on a beach towel. Paneled lace jumpsuits with strategically-placed seams evoked the feeling of a wetsuit, but could still stand on its own paired with a wispy skirt, an oversized moto jacket and a pile of gold chains.

A breezy acid-green dress evoked a tangle of seaweed, complete with artful layers of ruffled tulle. The same dress in a dark blue hue brought to mind a mess of waves on a particularly stormy eve. Vauthier also played up sex appeal, with slicked back ‘dos and rouged lips. Short hemlines, low necklines, and a plethora of leg-baring slits amplified the saucy effect. Regardless, the footwear of choice, ankle-strap Christian Louboutins drew the eye downward, stealing the attention from an oxblood getup, comprised of a leather skirt and croc-embellished bra. In sum, Vauthier served up an unabashedly sexy collection with sophisticated fabrications to back it all up.
