Gucci Resort 2016

Alessandro Michele seems to have hit his stride with his Resort 2016 collection for Gucci, which debuted yesterday on West 22nd Street in Chelsea with a whopping 62 looks. The retro androgynous look mixed with a slightly bookish vibe that Michele first introduced when he radically changed the image of the Gucci woman was there, but this time, his eccentric vision shined. The pieces spanned the decades for inspiration, and the impeccable styling resulted in a looks that felt like they were imagined by a particularly artsy downtown woman that had spent hours troving through vintage boutiques.

There was ’70s suiting with the ruffled pussy bow tops that have become a sort of Michele signature, but there were also pieces like a pleated librarian style skirt with an unusual print, a bomber jacket with lace sleeves, a pink grandma-chic quilted ’50s-style coat, shiny disco lame skirts, and Sergeant Pepper coats and jackets. For the romantic, there were flowy, wispy dresses in sky blues, lavender and rouge, and mustard yellow. As for the accessories, there were knit pom-pom hats, ’50s cat-eye glasses, and Mary Jane heels that laced up the leg with bow and pearl adornments. Michele seems to have captured a different kind of retro appeal; it’s a nerdy chic to Hedi Slimane‘s rock n’ roll aura, and it’ll appeal to younger, hipper clientele.
