Gucci Menswear Fall 2015 Debuts Under Alessandro Michele’s Direction

GUCCI SHOW - Runway - Milan Menswear Fashion Week Fall Winter 2015/2016

Gucci debuted its Fall 2015 menswear show in Milan yesterday sans former creative director Frida Giannini, who was ousted from the brand earlier this month. The latest menswear collection was definitely an update for the brand. The look was significantly more androgynous than the label’s previous menswear shows, thanks to  a slew of ’70s silk neck tie tops, a sheer lace shirt, fur jackets with cropped sleeves, and even a few ruffled collars. The collection was designed under the direction of Gucci’s head accessories director, Alessandro Michele.

Michele could be a front-runner for the post of creative director at the brand. However, many names have been thrown into the mix for Giannini’s successor, including Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy, Hedi Slimane of Saint Laurent, and Peter Dundas of Pucci, among others. If the end of show was any indication, the Gucci crew seemed anything but somber after the departure of Giannini. The team bowed at the end with Michele; they were all smiles  and reportedly were on a “high” and feeling “excited, free and going for it” according to WWD, which also reported that the team worked around the clock to redo casting with models that had never walked for Gucci before and even made last minute changes to the runway shape as well as to the shoes. Whether Michele is also working on the upcoming womenswear show for Gucci next month remains to be seen…
