Glenda Bailey Talks Trends At A Chic Luncheon

by Dena Silver

The ladies-who-lunch crowd took a break from their usual haunts yesterday afternoon to get a bit of fashion intel from Glenda Bailey and Harper’s Bazaar at the annual “What’s In/What’s Out” luncheon. Held at the top of the Hearst Tower in a room that featured a killer view and a slew of chic models decked out in St. Johns garb, the meal drew a variety of entrepreneurs, designers, media moguls, and top execs in support of Women’s Leadership Council and the Lincoln Center Corporate Fund.

Bailey provided a dispatch from her European tour of the Fall 2015 runway shows, noting that Valentino was her fave. As for her one pet peeve of the season? “I actually lost 8 1/2 hours of my life waiting for Kim and Kanye to arrive at the shows. And as I looked over at Kim who dyed her hair blonde, I actually thought, ‘I’ve waited so long for you that my hair could have turned grey.'”

In addition to her Fall recap, she also offered up some tips on what to buy now, highlighting pieces from ShopBazaar.com. Bailey’s top picks included ankle-skimming bohemian frocks (just like the Valentino number she was wearing for the occasion), as well as ’70s suede, fringe, and military-inspired threads. She also discussed what types of classic white shirts and blue denim to stock up on for the season, and pointed out that these pieces could be worn by women of all ages. She then delved into accessories, telling the audience to embrace platform and gladiator kicks, and to stock up on bucket and shoulder bags, the latter of which was her personal favorite style. She then called executive editor Laura Brown, who she called “our own Gisele” to the stage to model this season’s scarf options. Bailey stressed the importance of a stylish coat, noting that seasonal dressing is more pertinent now than ever before. She also mentioned Aran sweaters, cropped pants, menswear-inspired separates, and boots as pieces to add to every wardrobe.

Then, beauty director Alexandra Parnass took over to dish on the top beauty looks, straight from the catwalks. The takeaways? High impact lips, smudgy black eyeliner, and soft smoky eyes were the concepts to adopt ASAP…although certainly not all at once! For chic hairdos, Parnass recommended trying out long, wavy locks, low buns, ponytails or braids, and also suggested dabbling with chic hair accessories. She also urged everyone to load up on the SPF and to check out the latest lip filler, Restalyne Silk. “And that’s your plastic surgery tip for the day!” Parnass exclaimed. Each guest, armed with a stocked giftbag, descended from the 44th floor with a grasp on Bazaar-vetted trends du moment and a definite desire to shop. Seems like Bailey’s mission was accomplished.
