Giorgio Armani Hosts Edmund Ooi’s Show At Milan Men’s Fashion Week

Giorgio Armani is always looking out for burgeoning talents: At Milan Men’s Fashion Week, Edmund Ooi will use the Armani Theater to show his latest collection. Ooi’s showing on January 17 marks three seasons of his eponymous label, which debuted in August 2013. Previous young talents who have benefited from Armani’s generosity include Stella Jean, Diego Marquez and Mirko Fontana of Au Jour le Jour, Christian Pellizzari, and Andrea Pompilio. “The initiative to support the new generation of designers, which started a few seasons ago, continues to excite me because I concretely see the results and I try to keep an international perspective,” Armani told WWD.

Malaysian-born Ooi got his start in design at the age of 19, when he unveiled his first-ever collection in his home country. He then moved to Belgium and enrolled in the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Antwerp. While at school, Ooi garnered the attention of Nicola Formichetti, who made the decision to carry Ooi’s label in his own New York City pop-up shop. His CV also includes a stint as a junior menswear designer at Mugler, where he worked under then-head menswear designer Romain Kremer for a year in 2011. Seems like a young designer to keep an eye on…
