Gilt and eBay Turn (RED) for World AIDS Day

by Sydney Sadick

In observance of World AIDS Day, a.k.a today, eBay and Gilt are supporting (RED) for its (SHOPATHON)RED initiative by launching auctions that benefit the Global Fund to Fight AIDS. The breakdown: eBAY is collaborating with the organization to auction one-on-one brunch experiences with global business leaders, dubbed Brunch with the Brains. The lineup: Muhtar Kent of The Coca-Cola Company, Ari Emanuel of WME and IMG, Warby Parker’s Neil Blumenthal and David Gilboa, Twitter and Medium co-founder Biz Stone, Jonathan Adler, and Alessandro Mendini of Alessi Design.

“I worship what (RED) is doing to help eliminate AIDS, and I’m thrilled to be able to support it by auctioning time with moi,” said Adler. “We’ll lunch, we’ll tour my Fantasy Factory, and we’ll help save lives. Perfection.”

On the Gilt front, you can expect the site to turn (RED) as it will be packed with over 100 (RED) products and limited editions. Think Alessi, Converse, LeCreuset, Fresh, Mophie, as well as products from brands including Alex and Ani and Warby Parker. Exclusive items include a printed motif T-shirt designed by EJ Johnson, a special (RED) bouquet from FarmGirl Flowers, and a canvass Love Me tote bag by acclaimed photog and illustrator Curtis Kulig. Better yet, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will match every dollar raised for the fight against AIDS.

“I’ve been an active supporter in (RED) since it began, around the same time I started building Twitter,” said Stone. “I’m more confident than ever that I will see an AIDS-free generation in my lifetime.”
