Fendi Store Opening Bash Brings Out Karl, Rihanna, SJP, And More

by Alexandra Ilyashov

Last night’s Fendi bash to fête their gorgeous, fur-accented Madison Avenue outpost as well as its special 3Baguette bags designed by Rihanna, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jourdan Dunn, Rachel Feinstein, and Leandra Medine was absolutely packed with chicsters wearing fur on fur on fur. Truly, we’ve never seen so much fur in one place (many Fendi pieces, of course), accented by extremely heady perfumes and lots of French and Italian being tossed around.

Karl Lagerfeld held court in a corner upstairs with scads of bodyguards, chit-chatting with Silvia Venturini Fendi, Stephen Gan, and a seemingly endless parade of and adorers stopping by the air-kiss and catch up. Your Daily caught a few very entertaining words with The Kaiser (check it out in our next issue, darlings). When he left the event, partygoers were borderline-hyperventilating over being in proximity to Lagerfeld and, obviously, erupting in a flurry of Instagram shots. Brad Kroenig and his absurdly adorable son Hudson Kroenig were also on hand, with Hudson perched on a fur ottoman, playing with the luxe pelt.

Rosario Dawson, who just got to town yesterday, was spotted catching up animatedly with Rihanna, Nina Garcia and Zoe Kravitz, and dished to us about her sartorial choices for the catwalk circuit versus the tapis rouge. “You can get away with so much more at fashion week! I feel more relaxed. I’m wearing a gazillion accessories right now, and I’m really happy with that situation,” Dawson explained of her glimmering Fendi baguette, multicolored and embellished to the hilt, and necklace made from recycled Guinness bottles from her own line, Studio 189. “What looks great in editorial doesn’t necessarily look great on a red carpet, so I refrain a bit; I don’t take as many risks. Here, people really push it, and I love that.” Us, too!

Erykah Badu (aka DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown) was on DJ duty, wearing quite the chapeau and looking serious about spinning—and people were indeed dancing around a bit by party’s end. Also on hand for the soiree: Anna Wintour, Naomi Campbell, Martha Stewart, Hailee Steinfeld, Sofia Coppola, Giovanna Battaglia, and Pat and Anna Cleveland. Some glossy editors looked a bit bemused and bewildered by the crush of people, but that didn’t stop the chic crowd from weaving through the masses and getting generous refills for the Veuve being poured from massive bottles by handsome waiters. An intimate din was held after the bash at One57, and People were still arriving almost half an hour after it was supposed to end: the sign of a successful bash if we’ve ever seen it.
