Fendi Spring 2015

Fast and furious! For Spring, Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturi Fendi trotted out a zippy blue and rouge orchid motif to kick off Fendi’s latest showing on a highway-esque catwalk splashed with a median line. Between the bursts of pattern, excellent cropped jackets and piece-y miniskirts came out to play. To wit: look 15’s exquisitely fabricated grey leather jacket, crisply finished with white trim, paired with a lighter grey skirt comprised of flippy suede panels. (That skirt, and many of the midi iterations later in the collection, bring to mind mitter curtains—those long, floppy fabric panels—in a car wash.) A light grey and white suede series involved soft, wide horizontal striping and fine vertical slashes, like enclosed panels of fringe, that managed to take fringe slightly out of its typical westernwear context. There was even a faded denim cameo that followed shortly after. Starting with look 30, a handful of standout suede separates with very prominent slashed cutouts, resembling a car’s grill, were a standout, especially the little cropped jackets in robin’s egg blue and noir. On the mod front, Lagerfeld nabbed Cara Delevingne to open the show in her sole Milan catwalk this season. Throughout the collection there were, of course, a smattering of the ladylike, boxy bags to fawn over. For the evening-apropos finale: short, cheeky feathered frocks with exaggerated shoulders, cinched waists, and little collars, came in pale pink, robin’s egg blue, and, to close, a dressier black version.
