Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring 2016

by Paige Reddinger

Who better to don one of couture’s most opulent wedding gowns than Anna Cleveland? The statuesque model, known for her dramatic runway presence, looked positively regal in a sequined number inspired by an Indian sari. In this case, the draping was fashioned a bit like a headscarf, which probably had any number of Elie Saab’s Middle Eastern clientele taking note.

The collection drew inspiration from an Englishwoman’s trip to India, and the effect was positively romantic. There were, of course, all of the beautiful gowns for which Saab is known, such as the delicate lace Edwardian stunner that opened the show, but some of the most interesting pieces had more youthful touches, which Saab has recently been incorporating in his collections. There were menswear elements inspired by dress during British colonial India, like pants with draped fabric paired with military combat boots and fanny packs topped off with embellished cropped jackets. Mother and daughter duos have been known to buy Elie Saab couture, and with this collection there is something spectacular for both generations.
