Dior Spring 2016

by Ashley Baker

First things first: The flower of the season is the delphinium. It’s that purple bloom in the background—Dior wrestled up nearly half a million of them for Raf Simons’ Spring ’16 show at the Louvre’s Cour Carré. The bag is a structured duffel, the shoe is a pointed-toe mule, the sweater is cropped, the hemline is scalloped, the short is brief, the overall message is sheer. Dior’s codes were in full glory, with languid black jackets (hip-grazing and waist-centric) top of mind. The wide stripes, both vertical and horizontal, felt fresh, especially in a lavender and petal pink parka, but the preeminent showstopper was a cream silk coat, menswear in style, and embellished with life-sized flowers.
