Before they make their grand Italian debut, the design duo behind Nicholas K celebrated their departure with a celebratory tipple at The London on Tuesday night. But why are Nicholas and Christopher Kunz departing New York for Milan? It’s all part of the DHL Exported program. Nicholas K, along with three other labels, will be showing their collection, for two consecutive seasons. The lucky quartet of brands get to show in a market of their choice: New York, Milan, London, or Tokyo. Additionally, all costs regarding shipping and production logistics are taken care of, thanks to DHL’s premium shipping services. “You can have fabrics from Italy, buttons and zippers from China, woolens from Peru and then you design in New York. All of those intersection points, that’s where DHL is the glue that connects all the pieces,” the Kunz duo said in a statement.

So, what set Nicholas K aside from the other 150 applicants? “We ultimately found a design duo who exemplifies exceptional drive and passion to expanding internationally. We are committed to helping [Nicholas K] break down international barriers with our knowledge, experience of the fashion industry and our worldwide network,” Bill Heaney, VP of head retail sector in the Americas for DHL, said in a press release. The eve began with a brief Q&A session with the two designers, and Heaney, that was moderated by Jarrad Clark, VP and global creative director at IMG Fashion Events & Properties. The panel divulged what’s in the works for Milan’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in September 2014, as the crowd mingled in the penthouse space to nibble on passed hors d’oeuvres and sip on cocktails. See you front row at Nicholas K’s Milan show, darlings!
