Designer Chatter! With Ernest Alexander

by The Daily Front Row

More designers to discuss! Ernest Alexander worked on the ad grind for the likes of fashion biz doyenne Donna Karan’s lines. He gives it to us straight about his eponymous foray…

How did you come to launch your own line?
I worked in fashion advertising at Laird + Partners for a long time for some of the major brands, like Donna Karan and DKNY. Doing the branding for all those other labels inspired me to launch my own.

What percentage of your closet is made up of your designs?

A solid 55 percent.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about menswear?
I get a lot of, “Oh, my god, you’re straight?”Tell us about your Gap collab. We did a waxed-canvas field jacket, a chambray work shirt, some belts, and a lot of bags.

Where can we spot you at cocktail hour?
The Library Bar at the Nomad or the Ace Hotel. I tend to stick to my own neighborhood.
