Derek Lam Fall 2015

by The Daily Front Row

Stylish, simple, versatile, and everyday wear is what Derek Lam is selling. There were wardrobe must-haves like a strapless tea-length cream dress or a sleek pantsuit in burnt orange. Classic trench coats came with slightly exaggerated lapels for a subtle dose of style. It’s these unique twists on classics that makes Lam’s pieces covetable and wearable.  Lam was honoring his “New York heroines” with the collection, including Diane Keaton, Mia Farrow, Stockard Channing, Dianne Wiest, Gena Rowlands, and Katharine Hepburn. “Individualist with cut-to-the-quick elegance. A Tweedy Libertarian cool… (Yankee) practicality, unadorned, beauty in brevity and an unencumbered urbane attitude. A modern interpretation of American Style,” according to the show notes.

Every look was clean and concise, with obvious elements of luxe—including the shoes, which involved a patent variation of an oxford heel, which had the front row bloggers lusting for Fall to come. Some looks kept with the patent theme, including glossy underlays, while others gave a nod to on-trend shearling in deep hues of amber. The New York Heroine will certainly be well-heeled come Fall.
