(NEW YORK) Dee Ocleppo, designer, former model, wife of Tommy Hilfiger and mother to four-year-old, Sebastian Thomas Hilfiger, hosted a luncheon on Wednesday to celebrate mothers of autistic children along with Autism Speaks at their Mother’s Day “Mom’s 4 Mom’s” event held at The Lambs Club. Laura Slatkin of Candela Group & NEST Fragrances, also a friend of Ocleppo’s and an Autism Speaks board member, was on hand to help host the luncheon.

Besides dining and perhaps partaking in a cocktail or two, each attendee received an new accoutrement from Ocleppo’s handbag line, DEESIGNS. Weren’t lunching with the ladies? Her creations can be purchased online through Austim Speaks, with all proceeds from the accessories purchased benefiting the charity. Ocleppo’s line features interchangeable covers that attach to the handles for multiple looks; pieces are said to be inspired by her favorite places like The Plaza, Monaco, and Mustique. An estimated value of $300,000 bags were donated and will be on sale now through May 12th for $88, a number that represents the one in 88 children affected by austism.

Northern NJ Walk Now for Autism committee member, Johanna Burke, whose 10-year-old son suffers from autism as well as epilepsy, spoke at the event to stress the importance of raising funds for research of the causes of autism. As Slatkin put it, there are women who have “dreamed, worked, hoped, believe, struggled, and loved enough to make a difference.” Bravo!
