The Daily Davis: Paper and Kim Kardashian #BreakTheInternet at Basel

It was a sea of selfies at Paper magazine, DKNY and Sprout by HP’s invite-only Art Basel dinner for Kim Kardashian and the now infamous #BreakTheInternet bare bottom issue. KK arrived with security guards and a TV crew and every one of the 100 guests at the seated dinner wanted to snap a selfie with the reality star. But of course – a Kim-agram photo means mega-likes and at least 15 seconds of social media fame. “I was making a weird face when I did a picture with Kim,” Teen Vogue’s Andrew Bevan said. Well at least he scored a money shot.

Guests filled up two very, very long tables at the Herzog & de Neuron parking structure which sheltered people from frequent and random torrential downpours. “My curls hate this rain,” Tinsley Mortimer, who is down in Palm Beach with her family, said as she flipped her perfect blonde hair. Sprout by HP planted computer stations all over the place so people could create customized content based on the issue. Follow Paper online to see who bared their butt Kim-style. I sat across from twins Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared and nearby Paper’s Editor in Chief Kim Hastreiter, huddling with singer Brooke Candy who was blinged out from head to toe in Erickson Beamon. Kim stayed close to her BFFs Simon Huck and Jonathan Cheban. Before dinner was served, Mickey Boardman and Drew Elliot (avec blue hair!) squired Kim around to meet peeps like Amanda Hearst, Andre Balazs, Aliza Licht (aka @DKNY PR Girl), Esteban Cortazar, Leandra Medine, Darren Criss, Joe Jonas (also a popular selfie subject), Jennifer Fisher, Athena Calderone, RJ King, Timo Weiland, Mia Morreti, Shirin Neshat, Brendan Fallis and Hannah Bronfman, Loree Rodkin, Mark Silver, Davis Factor, Donald Robertson, who is being driven around in a convertible he painted with red lips (also a good take a selfie photo opp) and Dev Hynes who has been performing at every cool event – making him the poster boy of Art Basel.

After the fancy family style din din, guests piled into Ubers and hit The Edition hotel, the Wall, and even later the Paul’s Baby Grand pop-up at The Surf Lodge pop up at The Deauville Hotel. Yes, it’s all about a pop-up at Basel. And who popped up at Paul’s Baby Grand? Chloe Sevigny, her brother Paul, DJ Stefania Pia, The Gap’s Damien Nunes, Out of Order Editor in Chief Dorian Grinspan and Surf Lodge’s Jayma Cardosa who is 7 months pregnant with a boy she is expecting on February 2nd. Congratulations Jayma!
