The Daily Davis: Noho’s Pretty People (Plus Art)

I absolutely adore Noho. There’s the now already classic Acme (you must go dancing on Tuesdays at “Strut” downstairs from the restaurant. Deryck Todd is a divine host, and DJ Mikey Hefez makes the whole room dance). And Carlos Quirarte‘s The Smile, where all the cute n’ cool kids hang out (chef Melia Marden‘s food is heavenly and healthy), and bien sûr, my all-time fave, Indochine, just a few blocks up. Last night, I hit all three.

My night started at Great Jones Space. I hung out there a few months ago when my pal, the artist and Instagram star Donald Robertson, was painting away in the loft. Photographer Bibi Cornejo and model/DJ/It-Girl May Kwok hosted “BAZA SOYAYYA” (“spread love”), a silent auction to support the work of Doctors Without Borders helping those affected by the Boko Haram crisis in Nigeria. Important cause, great art, and chic peeps. It was hard to leave. I’ve scored some amazing pieces at silent auctions, and I was all about bidding. Bibi is the very pretty daughter of designer Maria Cornejo and photographer Mark Borthwick; I bid on her fabulous photos of kids in Swaziland, South Africa, where I’ve actually been.

I knew a bunch of the artists showing, like Donald, Danielle Levitt, Michael Avedon, and Andrea Mary Marshall (the latter of whom showed a risque nude that I’d love to have in my guest bedroom). Other artists included Francesco Carrozzini, Hugo Guinness, Henry Leutwyler, Phillip Lim, Paul MaffiSkye Parrot, Narciso Rodriguez, Andre Walker and more. Heron Preston was the DJ and my head was spinning with all the PYTs in the room like stylist Susan Joy (who is doing the Kaelan show again this season), Converse’s main dude, Jason Thome, the super-duper stylish Mary Kate Steinmiller, Matt Kays, former Calvin Klein model Jamie Burke, Dick Page, Dev “Blood Orange” Hynes, well-known art critic Carlo McCormick, PR power girl Sydney Reising, Happy Massee, style icon Garance Dore (in LL Bean boots, natch), artist Hanuk, and slews of handsome guys like Jeff Dorsman, Guyton Porter, and Alexander Farnsworth. Art…pretty people…I was shopping for both. Now let’s see which bids I may have won. Stay tuned.
