Christian Dior Taps YSL and Sergio Rossi Alum To Design Shoes

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) Speculation is abuzz that Christian Dior will be adding a little height to their shoe offering, thanks to the recent hire of Francesco Russo. The shoe designer recently struck out on his own, debuting a line of eponymous heels in Paris this past September. His designs can be ogled and purchased at his pint-sized boutique that neighbors the Palais Royale.

If Russo’s name doesn’t ring a bell, perhaps his past shoe endeavors will. He joined Sergio Rossi as creative director in 2008, exiting after five years to launch his namesake brand in 2013. Prior to his stint at Sergio Rossi, Russo put in eight years at Yves Saint Laurent. Under the helm of Tom Ford, followed by Stefano Pilati, Russo was the shoe designer responsible for creating the iconic Tribute shoe (in all of its incarnations). Additionally, Russo honed his talent through turns at designing men’s and women’s chaussures at Miu Miu and creating accessories at Costume National.

Dior and Russo have yet to confirm this addition to Raf Simons‘ design team, according to WWD, but odds look promising that the iconic French maison has added Russo to the mix. If so, expect the next spate of shoe designs by Dior to prompt many a wait list…
