Chelsea Girl! With Net-a-Porter’s Sarah Rutson

by Daniel Chivu

An international coterie of chicsters hit Indochine to toast Sarah Rutson, Net-A-porter’s newly minted VP of global buying, earlier this week. Personalized fans decorated by—whom else?—@drawbertson greeted guests, who noshed on classic Indochine fare such as spicy chicken, sea bass, beef salad, and spring rolls. Rutson filled us in on her recent move to NYC and more…

Welcome to New York, Sarah!
The apartments are tiny here! I’ve moved to Chelsea and I love it.

How did Net-A-Porter poach you from Lane Crawford in Hong Kong?
It’s been a long, long talk over many years. I’ve always loved and admired the brand, and I became friends with Natalie [Massenet] and Alison [Loehnis] and colleagues in the front row. We knew it felt right. It became a question of what it was going to take to lure me away from Hong Kong. It was always going to be Net-A-Porter and New York, baby.

Won’t you miss London?
I am a Londoner, a Chelsea girl, and I have Hong Kong in my soul, but New York has always been in my heart.
