Candle Chatter at Cire Trudon

by The Daily Front Row

Calling all wax obsessives: haute candle company Cire Trudon (the fragrant French purveyors have been around since 1643!) has trotted out new ready-to-burn goodies for Spring, including accessories designer Yaz Bukey‘s first collab with the brand. The result? A rather sexy black pillar, cheekily festooned with lips plus talk and thought bubbles and a plexiglass topper also sporting lips (akin to Bukey’s pop art-y bauble designs), scented to evoke leather a la motorcycle rides. “We tried five scents before choosing the right one—they were actually not very far from each together, but we needed to find a subtle-enough scent that didn’t smell like gasoline,” Bukey explained. Mission accomplished! Last week, Bukey toasted her candling foray at the brand’s West Village outpost, packed to the gills with oodles of beauty eds plus the likes of Prabal Gurung and Zac Posen. As for the latter, who ambled around the store sniffing the goods and poking around the pretty displays dispersed throughout the store, Bukey and Posen have a collab chronicle of their own, complete with its own soundtrack. “I’ve worked with Zac for four years, on his secondary line, Zac, which used to be called Z Spoke, designing bags for him,” said Bukey. Their shared affinity? Musicals, and a penchant for Liza Minnelli. “We listen to Judy Garland all the time!” Can we pop by the design studio during that part of the process, s’il vous plait
