Cameron Silver Teaches Us A Lesson On Shamask

by The Daily Front Row

He might be known as one of the Dukes of Melrose, but Cameron Silver would probably answer to you if you called him the Godfather of Vintage. And when he proposed to teach us a lesson on vintage Shamask, we couldn’t help but oblige. What’s the story with Silver’s crop of Shamask? “It’s so ahead of the trend, since the looks parallel what designers are showing on runways today.” To recap, Silver’s Los Angeles enclave, Decades, is stuffed to the brim with exclusive pieces from every era and has the power to tempt even the most retail-conservative shopper.

But back to the vintage at hand: Shamask was founded by Ronaldus Shamask, and has been around since 1978. The man even won a CFDA award in 1987! While the line has current collections rolled out each season, their vintage archives are absolute collectibles. Decades acquired a 59-piece collection of Shamask from the early eighties, complete with shirt dresses, silk PJs and wool skirts.  And now for the pressing question on everyone’s mind: which celeb will be spotted in Shamask first? Julia Roberts. According to Cameron, Roberts’ “people” stopped by to stock up, and mentioned that since “she has wonderful legs, one of the color-block silk tunics will look amazing on her. Everyone will think it’s Dior or Lanvin, but only we know it’s Shamask from the early Eighties.” Get those orders in, darlings!
