Burberry Prorsum Spring 2016

by Kristen Heinzinger

The Spring/Summer 2016 Burberry Prorsum London show drew a crowd of stars, including Cara Delevingne, Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, Suki Waterhouse, Annie Clark, Naomi Harris, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Gabriel Day Lewis…and that’s just the front row. The label outdid itself, with a 32-piece orchestra and singer Alison Moyet at the center of the Burberry tent in Hyde Park, and mods gliding around the circular orchestra pit. As for the collection, Burberry mainstays like tailored trenchcoats (this time more military-esque) made an appearance, but the lace, sheer fabrics and silk slips, as well as nylon rucksacks and mesh and rubberized sandals, stole the show. Contrast was the motif, with  nontraditional spring pairings like slip dresses with mink coats, and lace against sheer fabrics and silk. What’s more: The embellished slips and peacoats were made by the same embroiderers that decorate the coats of the Queen’s Guard. Talk about paying homage to the homeland!
