Bon Appétit Celebrates Its Hot 10 Chefs With The Daily

by Alexandra Ilyashov

Talk about a scrumptious kickoff to NYFW: On Thursday, Bon Appétit  toasted its posse of Hot 10 chefs avec The Daily by closing down Gotham West Market for its first Feast or Fashion event of the season, and dishing up irresistible nibbles from the whole slew of Hot 10 chefs who flew in for the occasion, plus eats from the haute food hall’s delectable outposts. A bevy of other chefs rolled through as well, like wd~50’s Wylie Dufresne, Estela’s Ignacio Mattos, and The Spotted Pig’s April Bloomfield and Ken Friedman. Fashionettes like Whit’s Whitney Pozgay and Lulu Frost’s Lisa Salzer took a break from the fash week circus to chow down.

Needless to say, BA‘s fleet of eds mingled and noshed. The mag’s publisher, Pamela Drucker Mann, effusively directed our attention (and appetite) to Rose’s Luxury’s  spicy fried chicken, and for good reason: chef Aaron Silverman topped the other nine (very impressive!) chefs du moment nationally. to win the Hot 10’s top honors.

On the fashion front, Mann met with her stylist hours earlier to line up some very swank getups for the glossy’s trifecta of Feast or Fashion shindigs. For the Hot 10 bash, aka occasion une, Mann was tricked out in Saint Laurent. EIC Adam Rapoport decked himself out in a Dries Van Noten button down—“I bought it at Ron Herman/Fred Segal in L.A. when I was drunk-shopping after lunch”—and white Levi’s. As for the sartorial workings of culinary maestros, Dufresne summed up his style sensibilities as “park ranger,” while Bloomfield opts for “simple, streamlined” looks that always involve Adidas or hi-top Chuck Taylors.

Back to the night’s main attraction—Rapoport explained to us how he found salvation in sandwich form. “After four cocktails and desperately needing food, I came across the six-foot-long Muffaletta sub from Court Street Grocers saved my life.” Other prime noshes included lamb tartare,  guinea hen tacos, and salty caramel ice cream. Auto-philes braved the heat to scope out a sleek white Mustang on display outside, while a photo booth stocked with Maybelline lipsticks was convenient for hamming it up between bites. The crowd stayed strong past the 10 p.m. end time, even after the drinks and nibbles were cashed.
