Blogger Spotlight! Arielle Nachmani of Something Navy

by Sydney Sadick

This week’s Blogger Spotlight! is on the ultimate New York City girl: Arielle Nachmani of Something Navy. The blogger, who comes from a family in the fashion industry and has 600K followers on Instagram, shares her interesting foray into the blogosphere, her shoe obsession, plus more.

What sparked your interest in blogging?
I had no idea at 22 what I wanted to do—I just knew I loved fashion. The guy I was dating encouraged me to start a blog and show my outfits, and at that point I was so not driven, so I was pretty much just doing it for him. After he broke up with me a few months later, it became a revenge. I wanted to look really good on the blog so he would see. After a little bit, he sort of just seemed to fade away and I became obsessed with posting my looks, interacting with my newly gained following, and taking great pictures! I launched the blog in 2009. Before that, I was in college without a care in the world!

And now you’re happily married—congrats! Details, please!
We got married last October on Fisher Island in Miami. I wore a custom-designed gown by Christian Siriano and my sisters wore white slip dresses from Nili Lotan.

Take us through your shopping process.
I’m a big department store girl. I like going somewhere that has everything I need. Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys are my favorites, naturally, and I usually always bring my mom or one of my sisters with me. That way, I have people who genuinely have my best interest in mind and knock some sense into me when I don’t need something. I’m an addictive shopper and have a serious obsession with shoes, so it’s never easy walking past that floor.

How many pairs of shoes do you think you own?
About 150.

Wow. You post a lot of pictures wearing Christian Louboutin. Is he your favorite shoe designer?
One of them. I love how feminine his shoes are but I can’t say I have a favorite. I love Gianvito Rossi and I love Manolo Blahnik. It’s a tough call.

How has the blog evolved since starting?
It’s really crazy. I started so long ago and it’s really wild to see how it has evolved. My style from when I first started versus now is like night and day. I used to be much more eccentric with my looks, but as I’ve gotten older I’m a bit more polished and classic. I also think that my outfits have become more realistic, where as when I first started it was more costumey and fun.

A lot of bloggers are becoming designers. Is this something you could see yourself doing?
It’s definitely something I’ve thought about before. It’s only a matter of time!

Any upcoming projects?
I have some fun upcoming projects for Fashion Week…but I’m not allowed to discuss them just yet!

What are you looking forward to this fall?
Coats, my boots, and oversized knits. I love cold weather!

What’s your end goal with all of this?
Hmm … I never really thought about it. I’m not a planner; for me, it’s more about a matter of being happy, and as long as blogging keeps me happy, I’ll continue to do it! It’s exciting to see where things will go.
