Best of Pre-Fall 2016: Carolina Herrera, Zac Posen, Marchesa

by Paige Reddinger

Presentations for the Pre-Fall 2016 collections are still in full swing.  Today: the kings and queens of the red carpet unveil their latest confections.

Label: Carolina Herrera
Inspiration: Chic tailoring by day, sophisticated glamour by night.
Highlights: Exquisite bell and blouson-sleeved white dress shirts (a Herrera specialty at its very best), a backless floral print gown that is even more stunning in person (a red carpet must), and a lace-accented sweatshirt paired with a blurred floral print skirt

Label: Zac Posen
Inspiration: “Inspired by David Bowie’s transition of genres from folk to electronic, I envisioned a collection that evolves as it’s showcased: from subtle asymmetries to couture patchwork techniques, the collection perseveres in its fluidity without forgoing a newly-found edge. There is a new approach to the silhouette, one that reveals evolution of softness and sense of grandeur, but also speaks to the refinement that defines modern craftsmanship.” —Zac Posen
Highlights: Posen’s always incredibly crafted gowns mixed with less restricting evening wear and some surprising liberty prints

Label: Marchesa
Inspiration: Marchesa returned to its roots this season, citing the brand’s namesake muse, the eccentric Italian heiress and early 20th century art patron Marchesa Luisa Casati. The grand dame’s opulent lifestyle mixed with the romanticism of the soirées once held on the palazzo of Venice’s grand canal were the influences behind the brand’s luxe gowns.
Highlights: Embroidered textures, tiered ruffles, and decadent embellishments
