Theatrics takes center stage in Jonathan Anderson’s latest campaign for J.W. Anderson, shot by Jamie Hawkesworth. The campaign concept is based on a film set, where Bella Hadid poses as a screen actress in several backstage moments, and was shot in the country outside of London, creating a very film noir backdrop. Across from Bella is a black-and-white image of a young boy with a puppet suspended in front of him, implying that they are playing a character, according to the release. If this were up for interpretation, the boy is Jonathan Anderson, a master puppeteer directing his muse in her performance. Or, Anderson is the puppet, an expression of many creative directors’ frustrations with the state of the fashion industry. Either way, it gives pause for thought…
