BCBGMAXAZRIA's Lubov Azria Makes Her Art Basel Debut

by The Daily Front Row

As you know by now, it’s all about Miami this week, thanks to Art Basel.  Getting in on the action is BCBGMAXAZRIA: the brand had a runway show at Soho Beach House on Monday night for American Express card members to show off their Pre-Spring 2014 collection. The brand’s lovely chief creative officer, Lubov Azria, is down in Miami for the occasion and dished to us about the importance of showing there this week.

Have you been to Basel before?
This is my first time! I’m looking forward to the inspiration.

Why did you decide to have a show this week?
Art is the single biggest inspiration in my life, and in my work life, so Art Basel is something I have always wanted to participate in. Basel shows art by not only world-renowned artists, but also innovators that expand the art world and push the envelope in visual arts. I always welcome the opportunity to merge art and fashion. Partnering with American Express on a fashion show to kick off the week was a great way to do that. Art Basel brings together some of the most stylish people in the world: artists, gallerists, cultural institutions, collectors, and the public. It’s a very stylish and eclectic crowd!

Your also had a brunch with Amex members at your Lincoln Road store. What’s it like to have one-on-one time with your customers?
Next year will mark 25 years of BCBG! We are one of the few companies that are privately owned and it’s a huge, huge success. So, we want to celebrate that with our customers. It’s wonderful to sit down with the women that inspire me to do what I love.

Do you have a favorite place in Miami?
Soho House! It has it all, great people, great atmosphere. I can spend all day at Cecconi’s.

When was the first time you were here?
We have owned a house on Fisher Island for over fifteen years, and I love spending holidays and special occasions there with my family.
